I've got to be honest, unless they are classics... older Ferraris really do look pretty naff. The Mondial, 308, 328, 348, 355 and even the 360 really don't do much for me... :o

(is it just me?)

No you're pretty right - although I've always had a soft spot for the Mondial T.

348 is a wonderful car.
And possibly the worst one Ferrari made.
I really like the 348.

I do like the 360, a bit wide for me though.
But I do agree Nomis.

Are you guys kidding?? In my opinion Ferrari have made some of the most iconic cars in every era. From playing Outrun as a wee nipper and watching the antics of the moustachioed Tom Selleck in Magnum PI and then onto the white Testarossa in Miami Vice, I have alwas thought most Ferrari's look gorgeous.

Some of the designs look a little dated now but apart from one or 2 mistakes, I would say each generation of Ferrari was amongst the best looking cars for it's era and let's not even mention the god of all Ferrari's, the F40. A car made 2 decades ago and still able to turn heads better than most supercars made today. Just watch how much attention they get at any car meet that they turn up at.

I can understand gripes about reliability etc but how people can level criticsm at there looks is mystifying.

You guys need to get off that island ;)
The guy with the winged 355 should be drowned. Twice.

I agree, modifying Ferrari's untastefully is sacrilege.

I'm curious - does he not understand the level of ridicule he's amassing?

I know that in the Lambo world, especially for the Countach, it's an everlasting debate wether or not to install a big wing on the back... For Ferrari, the answer is a no-brainer though... Which it seems, might be the owner's "shortcoming" :)

They do not age well... I stand by that, unless we're talking about classic (1950/1960s) Ferraris.

The 308, 328, 348, 355, F40, F50 and Testarossa, etc all look very dated and 'disco' to me.

While I can appreciate what they offered at the time - and even now for a few of them - in the looks department, I find them tired, dull and almost camp (not the right word but I mean, trying to hard, almost a cliché). The aesthetics leave me cold. Despite my reservations about Porsche's current designs, at least they don't suffer the same fate as Ferrari when it comes to being laughably dated after a few years.

(I stand by what I said earlier... even the 360 looks fairly blah now)

Disco Stu says "No" to Ferrari! :D

It was like a fellow I knew, who had a 308.

He thought he was the coolest thing ever and was such an idiot when he drove it - arm out the window, revving it up down the local highstreet, Ferrari keyfob that he dropped on the bar, table, or anywhere he could, to show people what he was driving.

He was the local laughing stock, the village idiot... and his nick name was Magnum.

Gold Medallions, Cheesy Mustaches, Shirts Wide open... all images associated with old model Ferraris.... like it or not! :)

I guess it all depends on your attitude and how you view the car and how you use it. I've seen people in brand new Fezza's or other supercars who still look like twats because of the way they drive them.

Of course that is true; however, certain cars carry more stigma than others - older Ferraris fitting this criteria.

Surely that makes sense?

You can look like an idiot in ANY car (new or old, expensive or modestly priced); nevertheless, there are cars that would turn ANYONE into a laughing stock because the car itself looks like it's trying too hard and/or hasn't aged well, due to suspect design cues.

I agree with that.
But the ageing argument is really a difficult one.
Maybe [well probably definitely] not in the same league but every time BMW or Mercedes change body styling, the outgoing model all of a sudden gains ten years.
These cars sell cheapish to the wannabees [myself included I guess] then there is a "need" to modernise the car to make it more acceptable.
Oftentimes ending in you realising you should have bought the new one after all the funds spent chasing an impossible dream.
Have to add, if I bought a 348, I'd leave it standard :) It really is a nice car.
