I have been giving this dilemma some thought.

The situation between S9 and PGT seems very like the split that occurred in the Soarer community in 2002, that split in two from the single forum.

The reasoning was similar behind the split.

The decline in the splinter group was inevitable.

But both exist still to this day.

    OK preamble over.

I think there is a very neat solution to the Private/Public debate that may have been overlooked.

I also fear it may involve a bit of work for Cem and I am loathe to foist unbeckoned work on anyone, but at the moment we have a dozen or so public sections and 3 discreet sections.

My suggestion is that the dozen or so sections that are public have a posting option for those in who are part of the private area to either 'open post' or 'private post', the former is a normal post but the latter just shows the posters name and an editorial phrase of some sort that replaces the private message/pics etc.

That way you retain the ability to partake in the Italian section if you're about to buy one and 'we' know but the general casual visitor is unaware of anything.

I would suggest that the term used is 'PM sent' I will append below an example of what this would look like compared with this post.

This gives the internal club the security they may feel they need without the site looking so quiet to the outside world.

I have not looked at recent versions of BBs and this was not possible in 2003 when I last did, but if possible this would be an elegant solution I feel.

The posting buttons just get an additional button and they are re-named 'Open Reply' 'Closed Reply' 'Go Advanced' 'Cancel'.

The way the code is written though my guess is that you might have to do this through the advanced option only, so the quick reply is always 'open' and if you wish to go for the 'closed' option that is in the advanced area.

Cem will likely know whether this is possible or not or whether he would wish to get into the code to perform this trick with the additional work it would entail.

....................errrr what shit fest ??? news to me ? nothing has happened between Baff and me that I'm aware of ??

there are others on there that I certainly have issues with but Baff is not one of them

The thread on PGT seems to be more about the realization that everyone decent has left the room ! don't think i'm even mentioned ??

Looks like much of what I posted on this thread a couple of weeks ago seems to be how a lot of PGT members are feeling and the realisation that the place is anything but private is dawning on more and more members

Place is fooked and has been for sometime now, the number of wanabee idiots has reached critical mass now it seems

This forum is rolling a bit now, last week 60+ visitors in a single tranche, more regular postings from, err, regulars, it is warming up nicely.

I'm going to try to post up a 'long winded' piece every week in order to give the site more than a one-liner look and try to give the place a little depth.

Mosi is still an ego-maniac and really needs a sparring partner to finally nail the Morecambe and Wise of the site home, more participants are needed and they will come.

We will drag Cem out of his apparent ennui and get him posting, he is good at road tests and getting across what he feels and means.

All here have a 'character' every single one of you, but many are perhaps a bit shy to put that character up on the big screen without self-consciousness taking a grip.

To all I say, spill your thoughts onto the screen, that sensational drive to where ever it might have been is the life-blood of this site.
