I used IRip software for about £12
Worked fine and recovered my library back from the I Phone........Phew!
Moral of the story, BACK UP YOUR TUNES

Depends what storage you require. My library isn't huge, about 20GB so it'll go on a couple of USB Drives but I keep it on an older PC's HDD just in case. All prompted by my laptop having a hissy fit last year and deleting the entire library. (Hence my experience of IRip )
I Tunes is funny about how many permitted computers it will allow on each account. I think its 5 maximum.
But restoring back to the host computer from the device requires a suitable software download. I Tunes doesn't allow it to sync that way round.
